Acupuncture
needling is the most well-known therapy of acupuncture
treatment. Typically, it usually involves the insertion
of acupuncture needles. The numbers of needle inserted differ
from each individual treatment, depending on the nature
of the condition being treated. In general, it is between
two and ten needles each treatment.

Moxibustion
therapy is used to treat and prevent diseases by applying
burning moxa to warm the acupoints or needles. The material
used for moxibustion is mainly Chinese mugwort leaf (Artemesia
vulgaris), which is processed into mugwort wool for clinical
use.

Acupressure
is an ancient healing art that uses gentle but firm pressure
of fingers or hands, even feet to press acupoints on the
meridians to stimulate the body's natural self-curative
abilities. It is used to release muscular tension and promote
the circulation of blood and the body's life force to aid
healing. Acupuncture and acupressure use the same points,
but acupuncture employs needles, while acupressure does
not.

Electro-acupuncture
is the other kind of acupuncture therapy by which the needle
is attached to a trace pulse current after it is inserted
to the selected acupoint for the purpose of producing synthetic
effect of electric and needling stimulation.

Ear
acupuncture, also known as Auricular acupuncture,
is another commonly used therapy in clinical acupuncture
treatment. Ear acupuncture is used to treat and prevent
diseases by stimulating certain points on the auricle with
herbal seeds. And the scope of indication is wide.

Cupping
is a therapy in which a jar is attached to the skin surface
to cause local congestion through the negative pressure created
by heat produced by ignited material in the jar. There are
a great variety of jars, but the commonly used ones are bamboo
jars, glass jars and pottery jars. The latter two are more
powerful in suction.

Chinese
Massage, also known as Tuina, is
essentially massage that is targeted towards the meridians
and acupuncture points. It is used for a wide variety of conditions
|

These
are the mainly used acupuncture therapeutic methods, although
other methods, such as infrared heating, Gua sha, laser acupuncture
etc, are also used in acupuncture treatment. All acupuncture
therapeutic methods can be applied separately or combined
together within each treatment, depending on the condition
being treated.
